Cairns RSL Club Veterans Tournament 2013
The 9th carnival was a great success. Teams from our 2 sister clubs from the Vintage Rugby Festival (Hawaii) joined us this year – Sunnybank Puffin Dragons and Condamine Codgers. The Codgers certainly came a long way – driving to the Gold Coast from Condamine and flying up from there. These teams were joined by the Eltham Fossils (from Melbourne) on their very first rugby tour after forming and our friends the Toothless Tigers from Brisbane. The Tigers have been great supporters of our event, coming up several times for a spot of fishing and rugby. The local contingent of our own teams and Brothers Old Boys added to the mix.
FNQ Rugby asked us to host a game between the Under 20’s local’s quad and visiting team from the UK, the Yorkshire Terriers. This was the highlight exhibition game after the oldies has finished. The Terriers and their entourage stayed onto accept our hospitality and they joined in with the after games entertainment. However, the young English bucks were no match for the old fellas in the traditional post games boat races.
